He was born at Tolland, Ct Oct 14,1771 son of Ensign Ichabod Griggs (Ichabod4-3 Joseph2Thomas1) and Mary Hatch daut. of Joseph, Jr. and Mary (Clark) Hatch. He went to Shaftsbury,Vt then to Springfield,N.Y. About 1790 he married Jerusha Gurley and had 13 children, the four youngest born in Springfield,New York. Children of Ichabod and Jerusha (Gurley) Griggs - 1. Jerusha 1792-1793; 2. Ichabod b.East Aurora,N.Y.1795; m. Sarah Abbott of Albany; 3. Jonathan G. 1795-1796; 4. Dr. David b. Tolland,Ct 1797; m. Note on the Find-a-Grave website: "Ichabod Griggs was the son of Ensign Ichabod Griggs and his wife Mary Hatch of CT. He married Jerusha Gurley about 1790 and they removed first to VT before coming to Springfield NY in Otsego County before 1800, where they raised their family of 13 children.
After his death his son Albert took over Ichabod's large farm; consisting of more than 100 acres where they grew mostly oats and wheat. They supported a large herd of dairy cows and sheep producing over 1,000 pounds of butter and 350 lbs of wool annually."

She died on 5 January 1845 at the age of 72 in Springfield Township, Otsego County, NY.^93,95 She was buried in Springfield Township, Otsego County, NY.⁹² in the Middle Village Cemetery.
