Ensign Ichabod GRIGGS III (!), son of Ichabod GRIGGS and Sarah HATCH, was born on 7 June 1744 in Tolland Township, Tolland County, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America.^51,54,55 He served in the military He was a Sergeant and then an Ensign in the Revolutionary War. about 1776 in Tolland, Tolland County, CT.⁵² He died on 30 September 1776 at the age of 32 in New Rochelle, Westchester County, New York Colony, British Colonial America.^{46,53,54,55,56} Ensign Ichabod Griggs (1744-1776) was a sergeant at the Lexington Alarm during the Revolutionary War, and an ensign of the Tolland Militia in the New York campaign.

He died during the Revolutionary War in New Rochelle, NY and "was buried under an oak tree" in New Rochelle, according to the military records. However, there are these two special monument markers at this cemetery for him. The bottom of the reddish stone is a marker for his daughter, Anna (1773-1787).

(His date of death is listed as 30 Dec 1776 on MyHeritage.com.) Ichabod was buried in New Rochelle, Westchester County, New York Colony, British Colonial America.^46,57,58 He was buried by soldiers under an oak tree.
