Joseph Emerson GRIGGS (~) was born on 13 July 1847 in New Haven, New Haven County, CT.^250,258 He appeared in the census in 1850 in Millbury, Worcester County, MA.¹³⁸ He appeared in the census in 1860 in Bristol, Hartford County, CT.¹³⁹ Joseph appeared in the census in 1900 in Center Township, Marion County, IN.²⁵⁰ He appeared in the census in 1910 in Indianapolis, Marion County, IN.²⁵⁰ He died on 7 November 1911 at the age of 64 in Indianapolis, Marion County, IN.^251,258 He died suddenly when stricken during a walk.

After an illness of about ten days, J. E. Griggs, 5863 English avenue, president of the Griggs Chemical Company, died of heart trouble yesterday evening at 6:30 o'clock at his home. His condition seemed slightly improved yesterday and he went for a short walk. Before he could return home, however, he fell in a faint and died shortly after he was carried to the house.

Mr. Griggs came to Indianapolis from Madison, Ind., about thirty years ago. He was a native of New Haven, Conn.

From the time he came to this city, Mr. Griggs was interested in the manufacture of boiler compounds. He founded the company that bears his name and acted as president until his death. He retired from active work, however, several years ago.

He is survived by a widow and five children. They are: Edward H. Griggs of New York, a noted lecturer and educator; Mrs. A. H. Yoder, also of New York; Mrs. W.D. Van Vooris of Parkersburg, W.Va.; Mrs. E.A. Turner of Normal, Ill., and M.S. Griggs of Indianapolis. Seventeen grandchildren also survive.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed." Joseph was buried in Madison, Madison Township, Jefferson County, IN. in the Fairmount Cemetery.

Joseph Emerson GRIGGS (~) and Mary Ellen "Nellie" LITTLE were married on 3 January 1867 in Owatonna, Steele County, MN.^86,260 Mary Ellen "Nellie" LITTLE⁸², daughter of Henry LITTLE and Susan Norton SMITH, was born on 6 October 1841 in Madison, Madison Township, Jefferson County, IN.⁸⁶ She appeared in the census in 1910 in Indianapolis, Marion County, IN.²⁵⁰ She died on 4 May 1926 at the age of 84.⁸⁶ Nellie was buried in Madison, Madison Township, Jefferson County, IN.^25,82 in the Fairmount Cemetery.
