204. Rev. Dr. Leverett D. D. GRIGGS Sr. (!) was born on 6 November 1808 in Tolland Township, Tolland County, CT.30,46,48,51,54,55,131,132 (His gravestone lists his birth date as 17 November 1808.) He graduated in 1829 in New Haven, New Haven County, CT.132 from Yale University. About 1830 he was a dentist in Bristol, Hartford County, CT.48,133 He was a dentist and also preached the gospel, being the pastor of the Congregational Church of Bristol and a Minister for more than fifty years. About 1834 Leverett was an a minister in the Congregational Church in North Haven, New Haven County, CT.87 He appeared in the census in 1840 in North Haven, New Haven County, CT.134 The 1840 Census indicated that he had three daughters under age 5. That is believed to have been an error because the identity of the third daughter is not listed on any research sites. He appeared in the census in 1850 in Millbury, Worcester County, MA.135 His occupation was "Clergyman." The value of his "Real Estate" was $2,000. Leverett appeared in the census in 1860 in Bristol, Hartford County, CT.136 His occupation was "Congregational Clergyman." The value of his "Real Estate" was $2,000 and that of his "Personal Estate" was $500. He appeared in the census in 1870 in Bristol, Hartford County, CT.137 His occupation was "Clergyman." He appeared in the census in 1880 in Bristol, Hartford County, CT.138 His occupation was "Clergyman." Leverett died on 28 January 1883 at the age of 74 in Bristol, Hartford County, CT.30,48,131 He was buried in Bristol, Hartford County, CT.48 in the West Cemetery.

Rev. Dr. Leverett D. D. GRIGGS Sr. (!) and Catherine STEARNS were married on 28 August 1833 in Tolland, Tolland County, CT.30,51,55,86 Catherine STEARNS, daughter of Elisha STEARNS and Celinda BAKER, was born on 25 November 1809 in Tolland, Tolland County, CT.30,46,48,132 She appeared in the census in 1840 in North Haven, New Haven County, CT.134 She died on 10 March 1848 at the age of 38 in Middlebury, New Haven County, CT.30,48,132 Catherine was buried in Bristol, Hartford County, CT.48 in the West Cemetery.

John Lawrence GRIGGS was born on 21 April 1843 in North Haven, New Haven County, CT.48,51 He appeared in the census in 1850 in Millbury, Worcester County, MA.135 He appeared in the census in 1860 in Bristol, Hartford County, CT.136 John died in the Civil War on 1 September 1862 at the age of 19.48,132 During the Civil War, he was in 16th Regiment of the Connecticut Volunteers. He contracted typhoid fever and died in the hospital on September 1, 1862. Aside from his two grave markers - the Griggs monument and footstone in the Griggs plot - he is also listed on the Civil War Monument at West Cemetery. He was buried in Bristol, Hartford County, CT.48 in the West Cemetery.
